I'm just in shock. I should have lied except I don't do it.

What is the percentage of adults with oral herpes, 70 or 80%, and most have had it since they were a child?

Also, a lot of people do not know they have HSV 1 or 2 until they have been tested for it.

I have tested clean for HSV 2.

I doubt that everyone in that sex group is HSV clean.

I have talked to people recently and they do not associated the sores on their lips as a kid with STD's.

They did not know that a cold sore could give someone genital herpes. I thought the first person was an anomaly until it happened a few more times.

I feel discriminated against.

This should teach me to lie and I will the next time!

  • Hey darlin',

It's been ages since you and I talked about this, but you know that I discovered this year that I should tell people that I have oral HSV1. And, as it turns out since we met, I have HSV 1 genitally too--or ostensibly so. All the testing I got was remarkably botched, and what I know now for sure is that I have 3 negative tests for HSV2 in the past 6 months. And of course I know I have 1--I have all my life.

So . . . I now know that I should talk about hsv1. And I do. I understand how frustrating it is to be honest and have that be the reason for a rejection. I personally think that those of us who ~know~ our status are waaaay safer, as Claire commented, than those who live by archaic rules and beliefs (and especially those who do oral without barriers).

So . . . I feel your pain. And, incidentally, as someone who got into BDSM in Europe where you can do it ~and~ sex even in public venues, I am for a sex and BDSM party. I might even come up from LA, if you invite me!

    Love and hugs,

    Rebecca
    • Here's a funny disclosure story:

A friend just told me today that his jerk roommate had used his loofa to wash off his halloween makeup and left it all stained blue. So he told the roommate, "You really shouldn't have done that, because I use that to clean my pubes and now I feel obligated to inform you that I have herpes." Guess he won't be making that mistake again!

And yes, Ann, I agree that BDSM & sex are two great things that are even better together. I hope you do put together your own parties.

        namaste,

ann, that was great you were honest.
however, they did not want you to use protection?
have fun with a party of your making.

and, you can get herpes II if you have I. having I is no protection.

        • ...and I heard in my community herpes club orientation (what a cool class for unhappy beginners! we all looked so stunned and sheepish it was funny!) that H1 is on the verge of overtaking H2 as the most popular virus down in the nether regions. And, the really un-fun part, you can colonize eachother again and again, so dont think that if you have one colony you are innoculated against more infections of the same strain. You are not. It's like forever being a virgin, in a way, and we personally need to be just as careful with our health after first contraction.
